The first motor yacht which comes to my mind for a grand gathering is the 69.7m (228ft) Sherakhan. She can accommodate up to 26 guests in 13 very spacious, unique cabins arranged with a mix of king-size or twin cabins. The master cabin has its own terrace and a private study if you find you still need to attend to some business while away. A crew of 19 will take care of you and they include a full-time beautician and head Chef.
One of the most stunning features to me about Sherakhan is the magnificent galleried dining room with its unique light feature over the long, curved table which will comfortably seat everyone for truly glamorous dining occasions, accompanied by the grand piano if wished. And after dinner when the party really starts, there’s professional DJ equipment and lighting.
Not surprising for a vessel of this type, facilities aboard Sherakhan include a beauty salon, sauna and spa room, and fitness equipment. There’s something for everyone on Sherakhan. For the active, there is what seems like an endless list of water-sport toys and equipment, as well as fishing gear, which will keep the active types happy and well-occupied. For those who prefer peace and quiet, there are many small, restful areas to relax and enjoy a book, play cards or backgammon, watch a movie, or listen to music.
Sherakhan has circumvented the world a few times and is well-suited and equipped for all climates. This year, her world tour takes her to the west Mediterranean for the summer and then to Antarctica again, in time for the Antarctic summer. Cruise past colossal glaciers and mighty icebergs, meet the local penguin population, spot rare migrating whales, dive (in hot-spring waters), explore ashore, visit a scientific research centre, and marvel at the spectacular scenery.
Sherakhan would be the real holiday of a lifetime, but she comes with a significant price tag. There are many other excellent charter yachts if your grand gathering is for smaller groups, based year-round in very accessible places. Other motor yachts, sailing yachts and catamarans are available with facilities to suit children of all ages or your close friends and come with a much more modest charter rate.
