What is it about a new yacht? With very few exceptions all charter yachts are fully maintained to a very high standard – not just mechanically, but also in terms of refreshed soft furnishings, paintwork and updated water-sport toys etc. Charter yachts also go through extensive refits when required which might involve all major systems being updated/replaced, cabins and bathrooms refurbished, new carpets, hulls serviced, decks replaced, new sails, new engines and generators, new air conditioning etc etc. But a new yacht is something else. New design, new more-environmentally-friendly technology and well just ….. new!
For those of you who would prefer a new charter yacht this winter in the Caribbean you’ll have you some very nice choices. And here are just a few to start you thinking ahead.
- Of the catamarans, there’s OHANA, an 80ft Sunreef making her debut this winter in the BVIs. Custom-built to accommodate five spacious cabins with king-sized beds each with full walk-around access and a vast internal saloon area opening out onto both the bow and cockpit areas. OHANA comes with a very impressive range of water-sport toys including a built-in scuba-diving compressor with full dive equipment and four sea-bobs - all of which can be tried from the extra-large hydraulic swim platform. Charter rate from US$94,000 per week inclusive food and standard bar.
- In the four-cabin range, the 67ft Lagoon catamaran AURA arrived in the BVIs a few month ago and is already chartering. Her layout incorporates a larger than usual master cabin and three queen-sized cabins as well as incredible deck space and upper flybridge deck. For the winter 2023/24 season I see she already has a good number of weeks already booked with several potential bookings pencilled-in. Charter rate from US$50,500 per week inclusive food and standard bar.
- Smaller, but of another quality build is the 51ft Privilege catamaran, NAOMI with three cabins including a large master cabin and two doubles. Launched in March NAOMI is now available for charter this summer in the West Med and will make her debut in the Caribbean this winter based possibly in Antigua but also available for charter in the Grenadines. Charter rate from €20,500 per week plus all expenses.
- There will be several new motor yachts heading to the Caribbean this winter and amongst them two in the 100 to 110ft range. Sleek and stylish with a very contemporary interior is a 108ft (33m) tri-deck Ferretti motor yacht offering five great cabins for up to 10 guests. A special feature is the fold-out balcony on the main deck (mid-ship) and of course a delightful sun deck. Charter rate from US$126,000 per week plus all expenses.
- There’s another Horizon motor yacht too – a 101ft (30.9m) tri-deck also with five guest cabins. This design features large floor to ceiling windows in the main saloon and a hot tub on the bridge deck. Charter rate from US$95,000 per week plus all expenses.
- Launched in just June 2023, there’s a superb-looking new Swan maxi. Designed for outstanding sailing performance she also has extremely comfortable accommodation for up to nine guests and is the perfect family boat for sailing enthusiasts. Charter rate from €115,000 per week plus all expenses
